Updated: Nov 27

We'll show you exactly from start to finish how to get your professionally made song or some other artist song on Instagram.
If you'd prefer to watch a video on how to upload music to Instagram, then you can do so by clicking this link here.
Unfortunately we can't just go to Instagram and upload our song.
There are two ways to do it though. Let's talk about both these ways below.
Have your music on the official Instagram Music
Have your music being played in the background of an Instagram story
Have your music on the official Instagram Music
The first way to get your song uploaded to Instagram in the official sounds area would be to use a music distributor. Unfortunately, we just can't go to Instagram and upload it there.
Instagram doesn't really deal directly with artists and musicians who want their music on Instagram so you have to deal with another person and this person is actually a company. Also known as a music distributor.
Every distributor will charge differently. Let's talk about an example using Distrokid. This is a music distributor you pay DistroKid a minimum 20/month to get your music uploaded to Instagram.
There are other options of music distributors as well. TuneCore, Amuse, United Masters, and CD Baby. Most of our artists use TuneCore and DistroKid to upload their music, here is a great comparison on Tunecore vs DistroKid.
If you'd like to get started with DistroKid, we can offer you a 7% discount here:

By the way, you can have it on Spotify and apple music and TikTok, plus all the other streaming services. And you keep 100 of your royalties.
So that's step one, find a music distributor.
Step two is getting all your information uploaded to the music distributor. It's going to be all the same for the music distributors and it's very simple. You don't need to know anything other than have your song in wav file format and your artwork with a minimum of 3000x3000 pixels.
Have your music in the background on Reels
The second way is cheaper and faster and easy. It's easy, although this way will not get your songs in the official Instagram music category.
When you upload and publish a video with your song in the background then this gives other users the opportunity to this this "sound" in they own Instagram reel. So, if your song is really good then it could have the potential to go viral. Lots of songs already have!
